Startup Weekend is a global grass-roots organization which brings together entrepreneurs of different backgrounds, to pitch ideas, form teams and start companies in just 54 hours.
On September 28-30, NIREC organized, funded and hosted the first ever Startup Weekend in northern Nevada. Startup Weekend Elko was an intense 54-hour event where local entrepreneurs, developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts came together to share ideas, form teams, and launch a startup.
The event was sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and held at Great Basin College’s Elko campus. It attracted mentors and judges from DCA Capital, Nevada State Bank, GOED and the University of Nevada, Reno. The resulting startup – Creative Krate – provides children aged 2-5 with two ‘craft boxes’ a month by mail; a fun and educational way for parents to spend time with their pre-school children.
We have recently secured approval to host Reno’s first Startup Weekend, on February 22-24, 2013. We are currently recruiting judges, mentors, participants and sponsors for this event, and encourage you to join us at the Startup Weekend Reno website.
