Jun4Tour of Ormat’s Steamboat Geothermal Complex @ Ormat's Steamboat Complex @ Power Plant Drive, Reno, NV, USATuesday: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

The daily commuters that travel on the new I-580 between Carson City and Reno can’t help but notice the large plumes of steam that emanate from the hills of Galena, and few know that the Ormat’s Steamboat geothermal power plant complex currently produces over 86 MWe (net capacity) – enough renewable energy to meet the residential electricity needs of the city of Reno.
Join YPE Nevada as we will be hosting a professional tour designed for Nevada energy professionals of the Steamboat complex. Come and listen to the expert insight from the engineers who work at the facility on a daily basis and ask your questions about anything geothermal.
The tour will highlight the geology associated with the Steamboat basin and the Steamboat geothermal power plant complex including the state-of-the art Galena III recuperated integrated two-level unit.

Jun18K2 Energy, Local Lithium Batter Developer Open House @ K2 Energy Solutions, Inc. @ 7461 Eastgate Road, Henderson, NV 89011, USATuesday: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Come and join YPE Nevada on June 18 at local company K2 Energy’s new facility in Henderson and hear about how they are advancing the newest in energy storage technology.
As a leading developer and producer of lithium ion batteries, K2 Energy designs a variety of energy storage systems based on its lithium iron phosphate cathode technology. The company’s proprietary batteries have undergone extensive testing and analysis, and results suggest a level of safety that is significantly better than other lithium ion battery chemistries.
“It’s no secret that any energy storage system, whether it’s gasoline, jet fuel, or even lead acid batteries, by nature is hazardous when exposed to certain conditions like a spark, flame, or overcharge. For most companies the logical solution is to simply protect the fuel from exposure,” says Johnnie Stoker , Ph.D, CEO of K2 Energy Solutions. “We’ve taken things a step further by actually changing the nature of the material itself. In the case of our batteries, by physically changing the cathode material we have created an environment where both the likelihood of a hazard, and the severity of an event if one occurs, is reduced.”
K2 combines the intrinsic stability of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) technology with our patented cell design to produce the “safest lithium battery on the market” as shown repeatedly by independent data generated from stringent testing of K2′s innovative technology by the Department of Energy, UL, Sandia National Labs and other government agencies. Through applications of our technology across multiple platforms, K2 continues to showcase the safety of its LFP solutions around the world.
Delivering over 4,200A out of the LFP300HPS, K2′s technology can meet even the most demanding application requirements—from starting a locomotive to powering an F1 racer, or even cold starting a tractor at -20F. In fact, K2 Energy has shown that their batteries can even power this Shelby Cobra, which has been converted to a pure electric car. The batteries from K2 Energy deliver up to 4.5 kW/L, which is world breaking power, as well as up to 190 Whr/kg, which makes it powerful enough to drive a car 400 miles.
Come find out how Henderson’s own K2 Energy’s revolutionary technology is changing the energy storage paradigm!
